Museum of Archaeology and Contemporary Art Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova is situated in the center of Turku, Finland. Aboa Vetus’ archaeological site and exhibitions tell a story of the city. You can experience authentic ruins, artefacts and medieval streets. Ars Nova exhibitions are concentrated on contemporary art and on presenting the museum art collection.
Aboa Vetus, the only archaeological museum in Finland, is a town quarter discovered underground. The ruin area of Aboa Vetus includes the remains of medieval houses. The Convent Riverfront, one of medieval Turku’s main streets, still runs through the museum area today.
The museum’s high-quality art exhibitions highlight current artists and phenomenas. Current exhibitions at the museum introduce Kustaa Saksi’s tapestry, where the interface between the material and the virtual is mixed as well as an exhibition of abstract art compiled from the museum’s own art collection. Marjatta Holma’s solo exhibition will open at the end of October, and Mika Taanila’s exhibition will open in November. Taanila is a film director and visual artist.
